Erie Bay Christmas - fishing and Kiwi hospitality

Monday, January 13, 2014

We didn't see anyone for most of our time at Erie. But one day we woke up and noticed a boat at one of the neighboring houses.

A few hours later those neighbors pulled up to our dock and invited us fishing. My father-in-law caught some of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen.

They invited us for lunch. I made a potato salad and we took a 15 minute walk - from our slice of paradise to theirs... down the beach, up a hill, through a gate and past their flying fox (which we tried later).

We shared stories, broke bread (the best kind with lots of butter and garlic) and ate our fill of FRESH smoked fish.

We walked home with full stomachs and hearts - thankful for the kindness and hospitality of strangers.
